ProjectsAutoportraits2003 - 2004We take photographs to recall memories, to document events, to remember absent loved ones, to spread news. The incentive to preserve our identities is strong, yet somehow it is still lost with time. Inevitably, even when a photograph retains one’s name, the image tells us nothing of the people themselves and no one remains to recall them in more detail. Some images manage to survive as icons, the people they portray as symbols of something more. Whether as a figure from an idealized past, or the public, famous person. Everyone wants to be important, significant, remembered. I want to be an icon, to be famous, to be immortal.
